Enjoy “Encounters in Dance” this month on Rendez-Vous with Yasmin & Kumar. Discover traditional and contemporary dances from other cultures around the world that bring people together. This show features Jyotsna Liyanaratne, dancer, choreographer, founder and artistic director of the Souffle de Dance Company in France. Her research into Sri Lankan traditional dances and rituals was inspired by her father Jinadasa Liyanaratne’s (1936-2022) work. He cataloged Sinhalese manuscripts of Ceylon which can be consulted in the department of manuscripts at the national library of France. On a recent visit to Sri Lanka she collaborated with Dinuka Chamikara Perera, a Sri Lankan dancer and drummer to create “Svarupaya” at the Alliance Française de Colombo.
